"Students broadcast church services from WAVM"

(Maynard Beacon, 1984)

"The student staff at the Maynard High School radio station WAVM have been broadcasting weekly radio church services to the sick and elderly of the Assabet Valley area.

These services, due to WAVM's increased power, are heard in Acton, Concord, Hudson, Stow, Sudbury, and Maynard. The station has received hundreds of letters and calls over the years thanking these young people for making the church services possible according to faculty advisor Joseph P. Magno.

"It's gratifying to know that people appreciate all the hard work that goes into these services," said Magno. "My young people are on board every Sunday at 7 a.m., regardless of the weather, and they put up antennas, and string mike lines in rain and snow."

Organizing and supervising all church services is MHS junior, Mike Cogan. Mike is assisted by Walter Mannion and John Mallin. Other WAVM members who assist at various church services include Ed Lawton, Paul Crimmins, Mark Diduca, and Mark Tomyl.

Assabet Valley sick and elderly residents can hear live church services on WAVM on the following schedule:

First Sunday (9 a.m. Mission Evangelical Church), (10:50 a.m. United Methodist Church), Second Sunday (11 a.m. St. John's Lutheran Church), Third Sunday (11 a.m. St. Casimir's Roman Catholic)."
